Amidst the challenges faced by our friends and family on the island of Maui due to the recent devastating wildfires, the Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor stands united with unwavering support. As President of the club and also serving as the Assistant Governor for Central Oahu, I am proud to share the impactful steps we are taking to contribute to the ongoing relief efforts. We are in this for the long haul.

Uniting for a Purpose

In times of need, it is the unity of communities that truly shines. Our Rotary Club members have come together, driven by the ethos of service above self. We understand that the path to recovery is not solitary; it is the collaborative efforts that paint the most vibrant picture of hope.

Joining Hands for Maui Relief

Our commitment to Maui's recovery is resolute. As a representative of this club, in May of 2023, I was elected as Director-at-Large for the Hawaii Rotary District 5000 Foundation. In my capacity as Hawaii Rotary District 5000 Public Image Co-Chair, I am working closely with the District Foundation’s Executive Team: Dave Hamil, MaryAnn Berry, Sharon Amano, and Rotary District 5000 Governor Mark Merriam to establish a communication and action plan for the recently established Maui Fires Relief Fund. The Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor is a member of the Rotary District 5000 Foundation and commits to ensure that every dollar raised will go to aid those affected by the wildfires. The devastation has not deterred our spirit; instead, it has ignited a fervor within us to make a difference.

Taking Action

On Friday, August 11, I received a call from Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke’s office to utilize the Rotary network to assemble volunteers for Saturday, August 12 at the Hawai’i State Capitol. Overnight, the word spread throughout Oahu’s clubs, friends, and extended networks that resulted in more than 1,000 volunteers to sort, pack, and load donations that were received the prior day.

With hearts full of compassion, we heeded the call to assist. There were over 12 Oahu Rotary Clubs represented, a testament to the dedication that defines Rotary. Our presence was a tangible demonstration of our pledge to stand by our fellow Hawaiians in their time of need.

How You Can Make a Difference

This is a rallying call to our community. The road to recovery may be long, but it is one we tread together. We invite you to come back to this website regularly to stay informed about volunteer opportunities that arise. Your time, energy, and commitment are invaluable contributions that can drive change.

Additionally, your support through donations can provide direct relief to those affected. Visit www.rotaryd5000.org/MauiRelief to make a meaningful impact.

As we face these challenges, let us remember that compassion knows no bounds. Together, we can be the beacon of hope that lights up Maui's path to recovery.

In the spirit of unity and service,
